40 MORE DAYS of prayer IN BOSTON!

March 2, 2006

After 2 hours of really worshipful, wonderful prayer…at EXACTLY 9 pm EST/6 pm PST, Lou Engle (www.jhopboston.com) invited me to briefly bring a word at the “launch” meeting of Facedown40 – which is a call to all college students across America to come Harvard over their Spring break/in the next 40 days and fast and pray for revival on American universities. How fitting, how absolutely perfectly timed…that I could pass the 40daysof “prayer” torch from 23+ college campuses to their effort in prayer…it felt “complete” and powerful to do so. I prayed for those whom I’ve met along the First40 and prayed as well with the dedicated-to-revival students who were in the room and ready to take the charge/challenge to pray for revival! (FYI: a PLNU grad, who is helping Lou, was excited to hear that his alma mater had hosted a 24 hour prayer room!)

Of course, I think we all feel/know that every college campus can host one more 24 hour prayer room during this next 40 Days (or moreJ)…it takes lots prayer and very few people and resources to make it happen—so go for it, yes?

What’s next for me and Burning Hearts? On March 11 (Saturday evening at 6 pm), I will visit with students from Asbury College, issuing a “Burning Hearts” call to personal revival—to be sold out to prayer (committed to a daily appointment with the King), to be set apart in purity (being a holy people of the holy God we serve), and to be sent out with purpose (fulfilling your part in the Great Commission). It would be especially great if students in driving distance could make the trek to join us in Kentucky! (www.groundzeroac.com or http://www.asbury.edu) )—there is room for 1500!

Coming Soon: We’ve only just begun to pray, see, enjoy, and experience revival! In the coming weeks, I’ll put together a photo/journal of the 40 Days of Prayer for Revival and make it available through the Burning Hearts website (www.theburningheartcontract.com). Then on 4/5, the chapel talk I delivered at Azusa Pacific University in the fall of 2004—where I met some “fired up for revival” students (Darren, Theresa, Andrew, Chelsea…)—will air on Focus on the Family’s daily radio show.

For regular updates or for schools were I’ll be visiting, please visit the Burning Hearts website or call the office at 800-444-6189.

And yes, Chris, I’ll visit the ASU prayer room (he has called me no less than 10 timesJ)…

Be encouraged and stay fired up!

960 CONSECUTIVE HOURS OF PRAYER FOR REVIVAL ON CAMPUSES ACROSS AMERICA!

Subject: 960 CONSECUTIVE HOURS OF PRAYER FOR REVIVAL ON CAMPUSES ACROSS AMERICA!

I am absolutely convinced that for the past 40 Days, the prayers and cries of students for revival—960 hours of 24/48/72 hour and one week prayer rooms/houses on 23 campuses in 11 states—have been heard day and night by the living, loving God! And His response has been to answer those prayers with numerous physical healings, hundreds of emotional healings, and significant personal and campus-wide breakthroughs! But we all agree—there is much more revival prayer and breakthrough necessary!

By last night, Taylor University (one of the campuses closing out the 40th day of prayer) reported, “You should’ve seen the Prayer Chapel tonight. The entire entry way and porch were absolutely covered in shoes. And the Holy Spirit was there as usual. Sooo cool.”

Also last night, at the “Day 40” Southern California prayer meeting held at Saddleback Church, the testimonies, worship and prayers were moving and passionate YET the consensus was MORE! Students want MORE PRAYER: MORE 24 hour prayer rooms, MORE 24-7 prayer houses, semester long prayer rooms—whatever they can get! Students want to pray with each other—every size, shape, color, denomination—they don’t see differences…they have the heart of God for this nation: a lasting revival of believers and a sweeping awakening for the lost!!!

A personal testimony: This week, while revising a book I originally wrote over 15 years ago (Let Prayer Change Your Life), I came across the Fasting addendum I had added for a reprint of the book in the year 2000. In the chapter, I recounted my journey of praying and fasting for revival in America. I retold how, In 1995, Dr. Bill Bright called 2 million people to consider fasting for 40 Days for Revival in America before the year 2000. Until I re-read the account this week, I truly had forgotten that I not only fasted 80 days (non-consecutively) for revival in America before the year 2000…but I had written the following words in the “Fasting” addendum of the book, “While fasting, I always asked God to show me what my part in revival should be.”

I can’t exactly describe the surprise/shock I felt while reading my own words!! Up until this week, I could not exactly articulate “why” I returned to student ministry 2 years ago, or why I formed Burning Hearts—a student ministry—2 years ago…or even why I set out on 40 Days of Prayer on College Campuses for Revival in America on January 20, 2006. But when I read my own words—that I had prayed and fasted for revival for 80 Days during a four year period, beginning 10 years ago—I was not only reminded but excited that I had finally fulfilled “my part” in revival with students across America over the past 40 days!! (I do have a sense, though, that I’m not “done” quite yetJ!)

For the record, what I’ve seen and heard for the past 40 Days on college campuses has absolutely CONVINCED me that God’s heart is for revival and that He alone has uniquely given this generation His heart for revival and awakening. The students I have met have an unusual, bold spirit of prayer—they contain a passion that I’ve not seen in 30 years of ministry. They have a genuine hunger for more of God, and they are gaining a conviction that we must become the holy people of a holy God for His presence and power to fall on this nation!!!!!! The students I’ve been meeting are willing to repent…they understand confession as a non-negotiable component of revival! And they want to pray more—and so do I!! And God is doing unusual and amazing things in their lives, which is fueling this revival fire!

What’s next? Today (3/1) I head to Boston to “pass the prayer baton” to the Face Down 40 effort in prayer—a 40 Day House of prayer in Boston for revival on campuses across America (www.jhopboston.com)! When I return to California on 3/2, I will continue to meet with students—visiting prayer rooms at USC, ASU, UC Irvine…and wherever else there is call to come, as well as joining in CTN’s effort (www.campustransformation.com) in a semester long effort to pray for revival on college campuses!

Subject: DAY 40 IN 40 DAYS OF PRAYER for revival !! Taylor, Berkeley and Calvin carry the prayer torch…into Boston!

First of all, I must share this wonderful report I received last night from a student we’ve been praying for healing/“no cancer” since Day 19… she is a powerful, praying student on her campus and her prayer request was placed on every “wailing wall” on every campus since then…She wrote, “I saw the oncologist today…. Everything he thought might come back positive, came back negative! He does not want to see me for 6 months! No sign of any cancer! My spleen is still enlarged, but he said that he does not believe there is any further testing that needs to be done at this time…God is faithful! Thank you for all your prayers!!!! The Spirit is moving!!!!!”

I believe this will be the first in many reports to come!

Tonight, the final 24 hours of this “leg” of 40 Days in prayer begins on 3 campuses praying through the last day of 40 in prayer (Taylor, Calvin, and Berkeley)!!

And in Southern California, prayer leaders and students from UCLA, APU, CSULB, and PLNU will be praying and sharing their stories and testimonies tonight at Saddleback Church at 6 pm—all are welcome—we’ll be in Tent 2 (visit http://www.saddleback.org for directions).

I’ve heard from so many of you, and we all agree that now is no time to stop praying! We must pray for revival until we see revival! Many colleges/universities have been and will be continuing in day and week-long prayer meetings in a continued semester long effort to pray for revival! Visit www.campustransformation.com for ways to get involved in more prayer!

And so many of you know about the prayer initiative that begins March 1 through April 9 at Harvard in Boston: it is called Uprising, Lou Engle’s and JHOP Boston’s prayer effort to encourage all students to take their spring break at Harvard and to “fast and pray instead of feast and party!” Because they kick off their 40 Day effort in a prayer meeting at 7 pm EST on 3/1, I’m planning to take the 40 Days of prayer “torch” to Boston!!! Please consider their mandate by visiting www.jhopboston.com/uprising/

Finally, please continue to send emails of your 40daysreport for the 2/28 meeting tonight!

Be encouraged and stay fired up!

DAY 39 IN 40 DAYS OF PRAYER for revival !! Cal State Berkeley fires up for 48–Long Beach has lit a torch!

Subject: DAY 39 IN 40 DAYS OF PRAYER for revival !! Cal State Berkeley fires up for 48–Long Beach has lit a torch!

As the report came in from Long Beach—50 students packed in the prayer room during the last hours of prayer, tearful intercession for a true awakening on the campus, and a pastor who offered a permanent room for ongoing prayer for their campus—the same thing was beginning the 48 prayer room at Berkeley…30 students were packed into a prayer room–worshipping, praying, confessing one to another, interceding, and praying for healing.

Because I had spoken at an all campus meeting at Berkeley in October, it felt like I was coming home to pray with familiar faces and old friends—one of my favorite memories will be praying with Albert over the entire campus map of Berkeley for an extended time—it was almost as if you could see the faces of the 35,000 students…and feel how much Jesus wanted to meet with them…we began to pray that their hearts would be open to Him before the 48 hours was over! (Why wait?)

Oh it was such a sweet/great/powerful opening meeting and I know the prayers of these students will see the answers sought! Just as exciting as 40 Days of Prayer for Revival on College Campuses, Berkeley is also in the midst of 40 days of prayer for an outpouring of God on/for their campus (their 40 Days House of prayer story is AMAZING!!!). So Roger (my husband) and I shuttled over to the Berkeley House of Prayer, as well, to pray! It is always so spiritually moving to meet and pray with students who have dedicated “a season” of their lives to praying!! Again, connections were made, words were spoken, and prayers were prayed that convinced me that there is MUCH more to come…

I might add, while in the Berkeley prayer room, a message came from Calvin, that they would join Taylor in praying through the final day of 24/40 and Berkeley’s House of Prayer will join in, as well. Anyone else for one more 24 hour prayer room on your campus for revival in America…?

Email your 40daysreport for the 2/28 meeting!

The Southern California Day 40 Corporate Worship Celebration at Saddleback will be a time of testimony as well. PLNU, CSULB, and others will be sharing their stories in person. If your school would like to send a short email that can be posted during our service, I would love to include your story!!

At the beginning of Day 40 on 2/28 at 6pm PST, anyone in Southern California who would like to meet for prayer and worship–to culminate all 40 Days of prayer for revival on college campuses as a community—is welcome to meet at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Ca. (www.saddleback.org) in Tent #2.

40dayscontinues:

The prayer opportunities continue beginning March 1—with 40 Days of prayer “face down” called Uprising with Lou Engle in Boston (www.jhopboston.com/uprising/ ) and an upcoming meeting at Asbury for all praying students on March 11, 2006 at 6 pm.

Be encouraged and stay fired up!

DAY 38 IN 40 DAYS OF PRAYER for revival !! CSU Long Beach hands off to 48 Hours of Cal State Berkeley!

Oh my goodness! The hour leading up to the opening of the CSU Long Beach prayer room was so special. It is always my privilege and honor to witness/hear the heartfelt prayers of students as they cry out to God for a deeper burden of prayer for their fellow students and for a greater love for Him. I am enthralled by their passion for God in prayer—their words are so sincere, so personal, so authentic…

The Ohio State House of Prayer apparently sent a torch—because within a few minutes after 6 pm, there had to be well over 30 people in the Long Beach prayer room—most of whom were not signed up for the first hour, nor recognizable to the prayer team who had so prayerfully and strategically created/designed the prayer room for their campus!

Tonight felt like another “push through” in the heavenlies. In fact, Karla, the student who has been my “point person” mentioned that just this week a few “financial gifts” allowed them to print 6000 flyers and put them on cars and everywhere on campus—and to their surprise, they received many, many encouraging e-mails back re: the invitation to pray! They also were able to invite every Greek house through an inter-campus mail system…and the confirmations, invitations, and friendly responses were beyond their expectation. As well, for the past 3 weeks, their “prayer only” ministry team held outdoor worship meetings on the greens—and again they received a great response and were able to lead a number of people to Christ! This is BEYOND exciting—it is revival in its purest form: students loving others to Jesus through prayer!!! Woo hoo!

As I head to Berkeley in the next few hours, I look forward to returning there to pray with familiar faces and not only visit their 48 hour prayer room but visit the new Berkeley Prayer House! Can this get anymore exciting? God loves the prayers of His children! And He will answer them!

For 37 days I’ve put the names of those who need healing and restoration on every campus prayer wall and I am expecting to receive and give good “reports” very soon! Yes and Amen!!

For 72 more hours we will call on God to bring revival to our nation, to our campuses—and we won’t stop then or there! We’ll keep going until we see our prayers answered! Yes and Amen! (Days 38 and 39 Berkeley, Day 40 Taylor University…March 1 begins more prayer for revival!)

“IS GOD FIRED UP RIGHT NOW OR WHAT??” LoveOSU Prayer House

By Day 37, The Ohio State University has prayed in the LoveOSU prayer house as a community for revival on their campus—and every campus—for the last 7 days! As they pass the baton to CSU Long Beach in just a few hours, they remind us that God is thoroughly excited about the hours that students have spent with Him in prayer! Though they, as a community, prayed the longest during the 40 Days, they found their time to go way too quickly and end way too soon! Not without struggle, they persevered…and yet they desire to spend even more time throughout the coming semester in prayer. They desire to see unity on their campus and every campus. They long for revival!

For every campus, the questions should be—what is next for us, how can we create a prayer house/chapel on our campus that will be a permanent, spiritual furnace for revival and healing? I encourage those of you who have been most impacted through your prayer rooms, who have found themselves called to be prayer leaders and warriors on your campus to take action to keep “the fire on the altar always burning!” Continue to pray and fast for revival on college campuses in America.

Allison, a “fired up” student who spearheads The Ohio State Prayer House (who has been praying for almost 24/7 now, and who will be praying for revival on college campuses for 24 more hours before handing off to CSU Long Beach tomorrow), asks for our continued prayers.

OSU contends in prayer for all of us—she writes, “…we’re still praying and the devil doesn’t like it. We gathered as a leadership team yesterday at 1pm at the prayer house to pray against the crafty and deceptive schemes of the enemy – AND IT WAS POWERFUL! The more he messes with us, the more it fires us up to pray and fast! Arrrgghh!! Please continue to pray for us at OSU, especially for the prayer house leadership team. My identity (information) was stolen, so you all can be specifically praying that for me. There is also some unsettling/disagreement among (some) here. With great opposition comes MIGHTY breakthrough. WE’RE FIRED UP!!!!!!!! CAUSE WE’VE ALREADY WON AND he DOESN’T HAVE A CHANCE! Right now, my heart is for everyone to keep this verse forefront in their minds because the enemy is out to destroy us and he is very crafty about doing it. ‘Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.’ (1 Peter 4:8)”

I love the passion for prayer in students across America. There is a battle waging for this revival generation to fulfill its call—and prayer is the place to win the battle. Join OSU, Long Beach, and Berkeley, and Taylor as we head into our final 5 days of consecutive prayer for revival on college campuses.

Please consider joining everyone who can attend a meeting at Asbury College…

40daysreport: Asbury College invites all college students to “Ground Zero” on March 11 evening in their chapel—they will be holding a meeting for all students who have been involved in praying for revival during this last 40 days and beyond! I don’t have any more information to give just yet, but details will be forthcoming in the next few days! Are you up for “praying” in Wilmore, Kentucky? (Hopefully, dorm accommodations can be arranged for out of state students—as soon as I have more info, I’ll get it to you!) Save the date!

40thdayofprayer: It was just brought to my attention that 6pm PST March 1 is actually the conclusion of the 40th Day of Prayer—it is the hour and day when 960 consecutive hours of prayer will have been lifted to God for revival on college campuses since January 20, 2006!

Which means…we needed to add one more day (24 hours) of prayer to complete the full 40 days…so within seconds of sending a request to a few friends across America, Taylor University came back immediately with, “We’re totally hungry for it.” Taylor is totally fired up to anchor the final day of 40 Days of Prayer for Revival BUT I had to ask, “Why stop with one school?” Therefore, I’d like to extend an invitation to every school—who desires to see God’s power break through, His love reign down, and His name be lifted high—to take a chunk (or all) of Day 40! Will you join together with campuses across America to pray for revival from 9pm EST/8pm CST/7 pm MT/6 pm PST from February 28-March 1st!

Let me know if/when/how you are in! Rally your troops, fire up your prayer rooms, and invite neighboring schools and faculty/students to join us for Day 40! Let us cry out together, in unison, for God to bring revival to our nation!

40daysinsocal:
Those in Southern California can come together on Day 40 at Saddleback Church at 6pm (tent #5—for directions visit http://www.saddleback.org )—please let me know if your school will be giving a “revival report” at the meeting!

Uprising: There is at least one more opportunity to fast and pray for revival on college campuses for 40 more days! If you would like to hear/know more, you can find out all the details of Uprising by being a part of a conference call on Monday 2/27 at 6 pm PST with Lou Engle. Uprising prayer begins March 1, 2006-April 9, 2006. DAY 34 IN 40 DAYS OF PRAYER for revival !! The Ohio State University continues in prayer for all campuses ALL WEEK LONG!

Subject: DAY 34 IN 40 DAYS OF PRAYER for revival !! The Ohio State University continues in prayer for all campuses ALL WEEK LONG!

I asked a young friend for an appointment yesterday—as a Christian she has struggled with sexual impurity. I am on a quest to find the answer to “Why do so many Christian college students repeatedly find themselves in the shameful, guilty places of recurring sin, if not thoroughly dominated by temptation?

In reading John Owen’s treatise (1656, 1658) later compiled into, “Sin and Temptation,” I found some incredibly relevant content that could preach very well today—and if it was, we’d all be simply more aware that sin never stops chasing us! And we’d wake up to the simple activities of guarding our hearts, hating evil, and moment-by-moment calling on the source of power Jesus gave to us, His Holy Spirit!

So far in almost 40 Days of Prayer for Revival, I am finding a sincere lack of understanding of the empowering person and role of the Holy Spirit in a Christian’s life. Wesley Duewel (former Pres. Of OMS), wrote much on prayer and the Holy Spirit. In his book, Ablaze for God, he writes, “To be filled with the Holy Spirit means to be saturated with the Spirit, overflowing with the Spirit, fully possessed by the Spirit, available to the Spirit, fully influenced by the Spirit, pervaded by the Spirit. For you to be Spirit-filled implies that the presence and power of God rests upon your person. He makes a decided difference in you; a new God-given dimension and a new transforming fullness in your life and leadership.”

Duewel includes the personal testimonies of George Fox, William Penn, John Bunyan, George Whitefield, John Wesley, Moody, Torrey and Finney who each gave testimony of the indwelling and continual power and person of the Holy Spirit in their lives—who gave them unction and anointing and power beyond their own ability. (I encourage you to read about each of their lives!)

I also encourage you to pray daily, asking the Holy Spirit to fill you up to overflowing with His power! Consider the very real connection between holiness and the Holy Spirit. J Oswald Sanders, author of Spiritual Leadership said, “We have as much of the Holy Spirit as we want!” (Examine your heart—do you want all…much, more of the Holy Spirit of the living God? If not, why not? If so, then ask for more of Him!)

Finally, Duewel quotes Oswald J. Smith, “I am perfectly confident that the man who does not spend hours alone with God will never know the anointing of the Holy Spirit.”

I contend that an increase of prayer in your life—in both prayer rooms and in the prayer “closet”—will result in more of God’s power and influence and presence in and upon you! People will notice Him “all over you!”

Today’s report from Allison at OSU’s 24/7 prayer house is short but sweet …

We’re still praying and I know the atmosphere is changing! “And it’s rising up all around…it’s the anthem of the Lord’s renown…” LET IT RISE!

Be encouraged,

Becky

Subject: DAY 33 IN 40 DAYS OF PRAYER for revival !! The Ohio State University continues in prayer for all campuses ALL WEEK LONG!

What does revival look like? In reading “Finney’s Lectures on Revival,” I am continually surprised by the stories of, hindrances to, and signs of revival that he recorded from which others could glean insight and courage! Yes, courage! I am convinced that God’s heart desires for all of His children to be in continual revival—always and forever, now and for eternity—BUT we need courage to persevere, to not get lazy!

I’m personally convinced that those who pray for revival will see revival. Those who live in simple and constant obedience to the Holy Spirit of the living God will enjoy personal revival, which cannot help but influence all those around them.

Let us continue to pray for revival on all college campuses in America!

Today’s report from OSU came a bit later in the afternoon, but it is nonetheless “fired up!”

Allison writes…

“I’m actually really amazed on how incredible this non-stop prayer thing is going. God wants us to pray 24/7 not just because of spiritual warfare and we need to pray and blah blah blah, but because He knows we will really like it! That we’ll enjoy it! Man, He’s so good. This 24/7 prayer adventure is shouting to me how much He loves us! I’ve been thinking today why we aren’t already at 24/7 prayer here at OSU. We roughly pray 15 hours a day, 7am-10pm, normally. And I guess the whole 24/7 thing just kind of scared me, but now that we are doing it I’m realizing how easy it is. Once we get our system down, we’ll be praying 24/7 come Spring quarter easily. And as the hours continue, more people are showing up to pray – especially during the night watch! Multiple people showed up to pray during the night last night, not just those signed up to pray! My roommate and I aren’t signed up to tonight either, but we are going just because praying in the middle of the night while everyone is sleeping is the COOLEST! With the turnout last night, I suppose more are discovering this as well…as long as there is room for me…”.

Be encouraged,

Becky
